We not only respond to the emergency needs of children, but also link them to services for their long-term care and rehabilitation.
CHILDLINE India Foundation is a registered Non-Profit, NGO founded to set up a helpline service for children in distress. In 1998, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, appointed
CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) as the nodal agency for initiating and sustaining CHILDLINE 1098 across the nation. As of 2006 CHILDLINE project is supported by the Ministry for Women & Child Development. CIF undertakes replication of CHILDLINE, networking and facilitation, training, research and documentation, and awareness and advocacy both at the national and international level. CHILDLINE in each city operates through a structured network of street and community youth, non-profit organizations, institutions, and concerned individuals. Each call centre has a team of trained youth who man the telephone lines 24 hours a day. Within 60 minutes (at most) of receiving a call the team rushes to the child and attends to the crisis at hand. It may involve going to a police station, the Juvenile Welfare Board or a hospital etc. There is a regular follow up till the child tides through the crisis, after which options for long term rehabilitation are presented to the child.
The main aim of CHILDLINE, Kamrup as well as the nationwide CHILDLINE services is to reach out every child in need of care and protection by responding to emergencies on the free phone connectivity “CHILDLINE Number 1098”, In addition it aims at working together with the allied systems to create child friendly system, and to create a frame work of a national vision and policy for children.
Indian Council for Child Welfare, Assam State Branch (ICCW/ASB), Assam Center for Rural Development and Gramya Vikash Mancha, as collaborative organization and sub centers organizations respectively to implement CHILDLINE services in the Kamrup district. Along with other major cities of the country, CHILDLINE has been operating in Kamrup district since January, 2016 towards the care, protection, development and rehabilitation of neglected and deprived children below the age of 18 years. However, CHILDLINE Kamrup got the first phone through its “free-phone connectivity 1098” on 6th February, 2016 and that very day is taken as the inception date for CHILDLINE Kamrup although the foundation day for CHILDLINE Kamrup is taken the day CHILDLINE Kamrup formally inauguration day that is 15th February, 2016. Whereas other three sub centers of CHILDLINE Kamrup is implemented by Rani who got their first call on 8th July 2016. Likewise, Boko and Rangia got their first call on 3rd June 2016 and 26th May 2016 respectively. This is how CHILDLINE Kamrup came into being with the support of other three sub centers.
CHILDLINE Kamrup is now reaching out to children in need of care and protection within the city. CHILDLINE intervene in a crisis situation and provides the necessary emergency assistance, rehabilitation and care for unsafe situations. Besides, the case interventions, CHILDLINE Kamrup conduct other activities to sensitize the communities about the situation of children and to make the people aware about child protection systems. To achieve this target, CHILDLINE Kamrup conduct regular awareness programs, outreach programs, organize CHILDLINE Advisory Board (CAB) meeting, meetings with the resource organizations, advocacy with the Government Departments, networking with Media, training programme for different allied system and various programmes on some special occasions relating to child rights and protection.
Since the inception to January 2016 CHILDLINE Kamrup has intervened as many as 158 cases of different categories such as medical, shelter, protection from Abuse, missing Children, Restoration, Emotional support and guide etc..
